Gabriel’s stolen HONDA XL600R 1983In September 2024, as I have done many times since becoming a member in 2019, I once again participated in the annual
National Rally (NR), which this time took place in Trecco Bay, Wales.
After the N.R., I traveled to Nottingham to visit the "guys" in Derby who had helped me repair my damaged XL during a 24h emergency operation two years ago, so that I could return home to Germany. Thieves had attempted to steal my HONDA at the TRAVELODGE Hotel in DERBY on Monday, September 19, 2022, around 10 PM, but had failed. Unfortunately, my XL was so severely damaged that it was no longer drivable. Four "guys" had helped me two years ago. I wanted to see these four helpers in need again this year (2024) and personally thank them once more. That worked out so far.
After three nights in Nottingham, I had booked an entire week at the "Leicester City House" in Leicester. Upon arriving on Thursday, September 26, 2024, my HONDA was already parked in front of our house, completely hidden under a large black tarp.

On the same day,
Sunday, September 29, 2024, when everything became worse than in 2022, I met Dan H. (no member of the HOC) from Walsall and bid him farewell around 2:30 PM. Immediately after that,
my motorcycle was stolen by an unknown bloody „p.o.s.“ in front of 26 FOSSE ROAD CENTRAL, LE3 5PR, LEICESTER, between 3 PM and 5 PM! IMG-4217

I naturally informed the local police through the emergency hotline as my first action. Unfortunately, they were not particularly cooperative in assisting me. Even during the following four days in Leicester and another week in Coalville afterwards, I neither heard nor saw anything from the Leicester police. As a (German) tourist, hundreds of miles away from home, I stood there completely alone with my large luggage and didn't know what to do! Not to mention that
I was in shock!I regret to inform you that my beloved
HONDA XL600R PD03, of which I have been the first owner since April 22, 1983(!) and have ridden for 250,000 kilometers, was stolen in broad daylight on a Sunday in Leicester, England! Fortunately, I am a member of a large British motorcycle club, the H.O.C. Initially, I was told that the club has approximately 2,000 to 2,500 members! However, in the hour of greatest need, it was only TWO members of the HOC who truly helped me!
(Two out of approximately 2,000 to 2,500 members. What percentage is that? - None! It's per mille!!)They are John Goodwin from Derby and Graham Brown from Coalville. Both from the "East Midlands branch," who had already assisted me in 2022.
And - even though I had expressly consented for the club to share my email address and phone number with willing club members in accordance with data protection regulations - you can guess how many HOC members actually called me!
Nada, zero, none, not a single one.
There was
indirect help, admittedly, but is that really enough when a full member is in an exceptional situation? A member who does not even live permanently in the UK, but only visits "from the continent" once a year?

This is a rhetorical question, and I leave the answer to each individual reader. If it hadn't been for the outstanding performance of John G, Graham B, and Dan H during the darkest hour of my life, I wouldn't have known how to survive and return safely back home to Düsseldorf! I would like to propose these three individuals, or rather two HOC members, for a special commendation by the HOC!
